Global attitudes to climate change are shifting. This isn't just a result of consumer pressure or political advocacy - the economics of power generation, transmission, distribution, storage and use are have changed dramatically too.

Globally, most of the top dozen economies have committed to net zero by 2050 (China by 2060), including Japan, the Eurozone, UK, South Korea and Canada.  Those that fail to act don't just look recalcitrant - they're also embracing significant commercial, financial and geopolitical risk.

Meanwhile, in the all-important US market, the Biden administration has re-entered the Paris Accord, and set policy to achieve a 100% clean energy economy and net-zero emissions no later than 2050.  Major motor manufacturers such as GM are on board, and already running high profile advertisements promoting the cause. And Tesla's share price continues to fly high.

In addition,
as we approach the mid-point between the signing of the Paris Accord and 2030, as well as the 50 year anniversary of Limits to Growth, the UK is pursuing an ambitious agenda for the COP 26 meeting in November.  And yet, despite this encouraging backdrop, we also know that there are substantial corporate forces working hard to slow down action on climate change.

In this special episode of ESGX Live,
we will discuss the following questions:
  • What should we expect from COP-26 in Glasgow?
  • Where are the biggest opportunities for impactful action?
  • Who stands in the way of change – and how should we respond?
We're delighted to be joined by special guests:
  • Marian Wilkinson, one of Australia's leading journalists and two-time winner of the country's Walkley Awards, to talk in part about her recently published book The Carbon Club
  • Blair Palese, an environmental activist, campaigner and journalist. Blair  founded 350.org in Australia and has worked in Australia, the UK and the USA in senior management roles organisations such as Greenpeace International and The Body Shop.
We anticipate announcing further guests shortly.
As always, this episode will be live and interactive, with a particular focus on practical actions that businesses, governments and individuals can take - and the commercial and other benefits of doing so.
